Cities and Climate Change Initiave- Walvis Bay, Namibia
Walvis Bay, Namibia’s second city, has a population of some 65,000. It is the only deep sea harbour on the Namibian coast with well-equipped infrastructure and port facilities. The city is situated between the Namib Desert and Atlantic Ocean, on the west coast of the Republic of Namibia. It lies in the most arid part of the Namib Desert with high coastal sand dunes. A former South African enclave, it was returned to Namibia in 1994 four years after independence.
