The Tsunami that hit the Indian Ocean region on 26,December 2004 ravaged coastal communities in many countries and impacted the lives of people throughout the region. Among other countries, UNEP and UN-HABITAT responded to the situation in Sri lanka. At this island the waves caused massive destruction, affecting practically all coastal urban centres.
