The Executive Director of UN-HABITAT, Anna Tibaijuka, presented Nasreen Mustafa Sideek Berwari, Minister for Municipalities and Public Works in Iraq and Margaret Catley-Carlson, Chair of the Global Water Partnership, with the Habitat Scroll of Honour award during the 12th Commission on Sustainable Development.
New housing policy targets Kenyan urban slum dwellers

The Kenya cabinet has approved a National Housing Policy and sent it to Parliament for endorsement to address the urban slum and housing shortage problems, deputy minister for roads, public works and housing, Joshua Toro said here Saturday.
Sustainable Mobility: Bicycles for Health Care Workers in Kenya

In order to address the growing mobility needs of HIV/AIDS Health Care Workers in Kenya, UN-HABITAT in conjunction with Rotary Club International, the Netherlands Chapter, and the Tour d'Afrique donated 14 new mountain bicycles to women's health care service providers who are affiliated with the National Council of Women of Kenya. According to UNAIDS reports, women are disproportionately vulnerable to HIV and they account for half of the 40 million people living with HIV or AIDS around the world.

UNITED NATIONS IN NAIROBI COMMEMORATES RWANDA GENOCIDE

Hundreds of United Nations staff members gathered at the Memorial Garden, Gigiri, in Nairobi to observe the International Day of Reflection on the Genocide in Rwanda. Acting Director-General of the United Nations Office at Nairobi, Mrs. Anna Tibaijuka, read the Secretary-General's message commemorating the 10th anniversary of the 1994 Rwanda Genocide.

UN Trust Fund gives US $1 million for slum upgrading in Phnom Penh

ASEAN endorses value-based water education

Education ministers from the 10 countries in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) this week agreed to start a seed fund through the Asian Development Bank to begin implementation of UN-HABITAT’s Value-Based Water Education programme.
